Kora, this is a beautiful piece. Gave me waves of thoughts while reading this. I'm from Sri Lanka, that's why I kept reading. How was your stay? Hope you are back with your loved ones and having a great time. Happy holidays!!
thank you so much for the kind words, uvindu. i had such a beautiful time in sri lanka – i was mostly in the south, and then spent a week going through the central area to sigiriya.
i'm already dreaming about my next trip back – i miss the people, the food, and of course the surf dearly.
So many feelings I’ve also related to in the past several months! Love this exercise, it was very beautiful and makes me want to write a letter of my own :)
Kora, this was one of my favorite essays I've read in weeks, well done! I'm going to need to check out that reef break in lombok sometime! Those are the moments in the water we live for. And Sri Lanka has been added to my growing travel list as well.
Also loved your description of the couple in Italy. "How does a scene, a moment that was not quite your own, still bring you so much joy?" - this is a great insight, and something to ponder. Beautiful essay.
